Amazon Fire HD 10 review (2017): A $150 tablet that's actually good

You won't find a better tablet value than the Fire HD 10. It's cheap and powerful, and it finally brings a solid display into Amazon's slate lineup. It's the ideal machine for binge watching, though be prepared to live without Google's apps.

Incredibly low price ; Sharp 1080p screen ; Significant RAM and processor upgrade ; Hands-free Alexa works well

Still no Google apps ; Some slowdown issues with games

The Fire HD 10 is a glimmer of hope in the barren Android tablet wasteland. It fixes everything we didn't like about the last model, while dropping down to an incredibly low price for a 10.1-inch slate. It's just a shame that such a well-crafted...

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017)

Review, price and release date for the Alexa-toting Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017). Does hands-free Alexa and a better display make this a winner?

Good screen ; Cheap ; Great if you love Amazon content

Ugly ; You really need Amazon Prime ; Poorly placed buttons

A big improvement, but the Fire HD 10 isn’t for everyone.

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017) review

Crisp, loud stereo speakers ; Hands-free support for Alexa ; Great performance ; Affordable

Underwhelming screen ; Poor cameras

No matter how you slice it, Amazon’s new tablet is a bargain. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a cheaper Full HD, 10.1-inch tablet at the Fire HD 10’s price point, and its excellent Alexa integration is nearly worth the price of admission alone.

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017)

With a sharp display and hands-free Alexa integration, Amazon's 10-inch Fire HD 10 tablet is the best value for your dollar under $150.

Affordable. Sharp display for the price. Good overall performance. Easy-to-use interface and Alexa integration. Dual-band Wi-Fi.

No Google Play Store apps. Low-resolution camera.

At $149.99, the Fire HD 10 undercuts most entry-level Android tablets by $30 to $50. You pay for the discount with lock screen ads (which you can get rid of by paying $15) and a tablet that's completely tuned to display Amazon content, with no Google...

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017) review

If you're prepared to compromise, this is a better tablet than its price tag suggests.

Lots of screen for the money ; Strong video and audio performance

Feels built down to a price ; Very Amazon-centric

Accept its shortcomings and the Fire HD 10 is revealed as a fine-value tablet

Review: Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017)

This cheap 10-inch tablet serves up the best of Amazon.

$150 is a remarkable price. It’s the easiest way to consume all things Amazon. Hands-free Alexa rocks. Battery life is comparable to any tablet. The MicroSD slot is helpful if you run out of space. The stereo speakers sound great.

App selection is limited, and there’s no easy access to the Google Play store. Runs an outdated version of Android. The screen noticeably washes out at some angles. The processing power, cameras, and design leave a lot to be desired.

Amazon Fire HD 10 2017 review: An amazing big-screen tablet value

Amazon's big 10-inch tablet delivers serious media chops for less than half the cost of Apple's basic iPad.

A great value for a 10-inch tablet with a high-res screen and solid performance. Starts with 32GB of storage, the same as an iPad. Hands-free Alexa works as well as it does on an Echo.

Really pushes you towards Amazon services, making other media options harder to find and use. Some popular apps are not available through Amazon's app store. The glossy screen makes movie-watching hard at times.

It's missing a few key apps and features, but with a lower price, faster processor, more storage and new Alexa features, the Amazon Fire HD 10 is an amazing value for a high-gloss media tablet.

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017) review

A Full HD upgrade, but for less cash? Yes please

A Full HD display for not much cash ; Easy access to Amazon services ; Alexa fully on-board

Speakers are loud, but lack presence ; Still no Google apps

Upgraded in almost every way, there’s no beating the HD 10 as the value tablet champ

Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017) review

The best big Amazon tablet offers more for a lot less

Cheap ; Full HD display ; Alexa is useful

Amazon’s Fire OS ; Plastic design ; Poor cameras

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is the best big tablet from Amazon that costs more than one third the price of an iPad while on sale. It streams video and other multimedia content just fine, even if it doesn't have the slick Apple's interface. You will not find...
