Apple AirPods review

Apple's fully wireless earbuds solve its newest problem

Battery life is exceptional ; Sound is great ; Pairing is quick and easy

One-size-fits-all design ; No in-line remote ; Controversial looks

There’s lots to like about the AirPods including their sound quality, and how seamlessly they pair with your device, but at the end of the day their lack of in-line remote means that there are easier headphones to use while out and about, and Siri...

Apple AirPods review: Wire-free future or design disaster?

With no headphone socket on the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus , you've either got to go Lightning connector or Bluetooth wireless. And the company is hoping you'll opt for the latter and buy into its wireless in-ear AirPods.

Easy to connect, work instantly across the Apple eco-system, carry case is the charger, sound isolation for calls and Siri control

Design will polarise opinion, lose the charging case you're stuffed, expensive, no audio upgrade compared to EarPods, can fall out, Siri control is sluggish

The AirPods have already polarised opinion when it comes to their design. Everyone we've asked would be conscious about wearing them, both because of the stick that protrudes from each ear and the fear of them falling out and getting lost.

Apple AirPods review: Strange to look at, but these buds deliver

Apple's AirPods may look strange, but they're an interesting shake-up in what you expect from wireless audio

So there's definitely room for improvement, but this is far from the dud product that many predicted from early press shots. Apple has evidently given a lot of thought to sidestepping the typical pitfalls of wireless earbuds, and the result is a pair...

Apple AirPods

AirPods are the first completely wireless earphones from Apple, and they're sold as the perfect companion to the new iPhone 7. In lots of ways, they're the best wireless earbuds you can buy right now, thanks to a rock-solid connection, easy setup and...

Ultimately, the Apple AirPods make me excited for what Apple can achieve for future versions as the first attempt falls short in some important areas.

Apple AirPods review

Not the ultimate in sound quality, but Apple leads the way in wireless headphone tech...

Tiny and light ; Pure wirelessness ; Weighty, balanced sound ; Good fit for most ears ; Clever case that carries extra charge

Lack detail and dynamic subtlety ; Siri isn’t a good substitute for buttons ; Attention-grabbing design, and not in a good way

The Apple AirPods are true next-generation wireless headphones, but sadly they are only of average sound quality

Apple AirPods review

A new dawn for wireless headphones

Brilliant, transformative wireless tech ; Very decent sound ; Awesomely neat, battery-boosting carry case ; Amazingly lightweight, compact and comfortable for those with average ears

Non-adjustable size and shape means they won’t fit everyone ; Attention-grabbing design, and generally not in a good way ; Easily lost and expensive to replace ; Siri isn’t yet a good replacement for buttons

They make you look daft and are in some ways ahead of their time, but tech-wise the AirPods are undeniably awesome

Apple AirPods review

Yes, wearing Apple's AirPod headphones makes you look positively goofy. But you already knew that .

The ultra lightweight Apple AirPods are fully wireless headphones that offer a reliable wireless connection, effortless pairing with Apple devices, decent sonics and good call quality. The included compact charging case quickly charges the buds.

Their open design allows for a lot of ambient noise to leak in. There are no controls on the buds (except Siri). Similarly priced wireless models deliver better sound. And yes, they look pretty dorky.

Look past their offbeat design and you'll find that Apple AirPods' compact size and high convenience factor are a winning combination.

Apple AirPods Review

Wireless headphones have been ripe for a reboot for years now, but no contenders for the crown have divided opinion quite like Apple's AirPods. Revealed alongside the iPhone 7, the fully-wireless earbuds were intended to salve the pain of losing the...

Apple AirPods

The Apple AirPods feel like a big step for wireless in-ear audio—but it's more about innovations and features and less about audio performance.

Clear audio performance. Seamlessly pairs with multiple iOS devices on the same iCloud account. Carrying case doubles as backup battery.

Lack of ear canal seal means less bass response and potential ear-to-ear stereo image discrepancies. Limited onboard controls virtually require you to use Siri. In-ear fit could be more secure.

Most of the hand-wringing over the lack of a headphone jack in the iPhone 7 is misdirected—wireless audio is clearly the direction of the future. But it remains to be seen how the world will respond to this new breed of cable-free earphones. As far as...
