Apple Watch 3 review

The new Apple Watch makes the right connections

Good smartwatch battery life ; Clear, bright screen

Only iPhone compatible ; Siri still patchy

The two versions of the Apple Watch 3 impress - but the cheaper, non-4G version of the wearable delivers good value for money and top fitness capabilities from the wrist.

Apple Watch Series 3 review: A great smartwatch comes with some caveats

The Apple Watch Series 3 is a strange beast. While it adds more power and capabilities over the Apple Watch Series 2, many of those features come with

Ability to ditch the iPhone ; WatchOS 4 ; Ease of making calls ; Still looks the part ; Greater fitness focus than before

Call issues if you are on captive Wi-Fi network ; No international roaming

When the Apple Watch Series 3 launched it didn't feel ready. Now 3 months later its a very different story. In many ways it works as an improved version of the already good Series 2 offering with the big stand out feature being the 4G connectivity.

Apple Watch Series 3

Apple Watch 3 review: Apple's LTE-enabled smartwatch is the most fully-featured on the market, but LTE isn't going to be for everyone.

Snappier performance ; Improved exercise tracking ; Super-bright and clear display ; Decent battery life (when not reliant on LTE) ; watchOS 4 improvements ; Apple Pay is still super useful

LTE has a big impact on battery life ; Needs more dedicated watch apps to make use of LTE ; Need to wait for Apple Music streaming ; Siri doesn't always work ; No LTE roaming

Battery life is rated the same as the Apple Watch Series 2, which Apple states is 18 hours. This applies for both the cellular and non-cellular options.

Apple Watch Series 3 (non-LTE) review: third time’s the charm

You don't need LTE

Great build quality ; Sharp, vibrant display ; Fast performance ; Reliable battery life

Doesn’t always show the time ; Every Apple Watch looks just like every other Apple Watch ; Smartwatches are still not must-have devices

The Apple Watch may not ever be the promised device that liberates us from the shackles of our smartphones, but three years into its existence, it is a very competent and capable smartwatch. Now if only it would show me the time all of the time.

Apple Watch Series 3 review: Apple retains its smartwatch crown

4G isn't essential, but the Apple Watch 3 is still the best smartwatch money can buy

The fact remains, though, that the Apple Watch Series 3 in either 4G or GPS-only guise is the best smartwatch you can buy, regardless of platform, and for most people the best all-round fitness tracker as well. If you own an iPhone and you’re looking...

Apple Watch Series 3 review: Always connected, just without the guilt

Apple announced the third generation Apple Watch alongside new iPhones last month. What sets the Series 3 model apart from previous iterations is that it comes with the option to connect it to a cellular network, breaking the requirement to always have...

Battery life ; Bright, sharp display ; Siri integration is much better ; Capable of ditching iPhone for short periods of time

It's more expensive than the non-LTE Apple Watch Series 3 ; A monthly fee is a non-starter for some

Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE review: missed connections

You should still call me on my cellphone

Option for LTE ; Faster processor ; watchOS 4 (not specific to this hardware)

Cellular connectivity problems ; Apple Music streaming not working yet ; Unreliable Siri ; Notable battery drain with LTE

Apple Watch Series 3 review

Apple is good at making you want things you may not need or want in your life. Adding 4G to the Apple Watch might be another instance of this, even if it is technically great

The Series 3 with LTE does what it set out to do, but it is a bridge product. We are not in a sci-fi world where everyone wants a watch to make calls instead of a smartphone.

Apple Watch Series 3 review: A good watch, a so-so phone replacement

All told, the Apple Watch Series 3 feels like two separate devices. When it's used as a traditional smartwatch — by which I mean it's connected to, and in range of a phone — it's the best wearable Apple has ever made. Performance is much improved,...

Improved performance ; Great battery life when connected to a phone ; Valuable new fitness features ; Siri feels more useful

iPhone still needs to be on to receive texts ; Lousy battery life on LTE ; Call quality can vary ; Apple Music streaming not ready yet

Apple Watch Series 3

Apple adds cellular connectivity and doubles down on fitness features with the Watch Series 3, but it comes at a price.

Built-in cellular connectivity. Improved heart rate monitoring. Faster processor. Clear call quality. New band and case options.

Expensive. LTE drains battery rapidly.

Bottom Line: Apple adds cellular connectivity and doubles down on fitness features with the Watch Series 3, but it comes at a price.
