Dell XPS 13 Review: The best Windows laptop of 2018 so far

Dell XPS 13 (2018) review: The best Windows laptop money can buy

Beautiful design ; Great audio ; Comfortable keyboard ; Solid performance

No full-sized SD card reader or USB ports ; Screen not ideal for artists

The XPS 13 is the best all-round, small-form-factor Windows 10 laptop you can buy, but it isn’t quite perfect.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

Forget what you know about Dell's XPS range: the 13-inch 2-in-1 is a return to the hybrid form factor last seen with the launch of the ill-fated XPS 12 in 2015.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 review

Sturdy, light chassis ; Outstanding keyboard ; Strong performance ; Long-lasting battery

Limited USB connectivity ; Mediocre touchpad

We gave the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 our Best of Computing at CES 2017. Handing out such an award is always a risk. Sometimes, a device doesn’t hold up to closer scrutiny. But Dell’s latest is rock solid. It posted great scores in our benchmarks and, just as...

Dell’s latest XPS 13 is fast, nimble, and kind of stale

Dell's tiny laptop has had a good run, but it's time for something new

Fast performance ; Reliable battery life ; Compact size ; Great keyboard and trackpad ; A full-size SD card slot!

Thicker and heavier than similar laptops ; The world’s worst webcam placement ; It’s time for a design refresh

The XPS 13 deserves a place in laptop history for what it accomplished: making laptops smaller and more portable than ever before. But perhaps now it’s time for Dell to look to future and reinvent itself again.

Dell's little premium laptop makes a big performance leap

Dell sticks with its winning premium ultrabook design while adding Intel's latest mobile CPUs for all-around better performance.

The Dell XPS 13 keeps everything that was great about the previous model -- including its nearly edge-to-edge-display, Thunderbolt 3 USB-C and fantastic keyboard -- and adds eighth-gen Intel processors paired with Dell technologies for a big...

The thin frame around the display means the webcam is placed at the bottom of the display. Though the QHD-resolution touchscreen is beautiful, it adds a lot to the price and hurts battery life. Gold version will cost you $50 more.

With increased performance and battery life, Dell's premium ultraportable XPS 13 remains easy to recommend.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 review: bent out of shape

Dell's XPS 13 has been one of our favorite laptops for the past couple of years because of its sleek, trendsetting design, great keyboard, and solid performance. When it debuted back in the spring...

Solid build quality ; Great keyboard ; Smooth trackpad ; Bright, sharp display

Terrible power button ; Unpredictable sleep behavior ; Difficult to open ; Awkward as a tablet ; Limited port options

Dell's best laptop tries too hard and loses its charm

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is part laptop, part tablet, all screen

The nearly bezel-free Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is the new flagship of the XPS line.

This new version of the XPS 13 adds a hybrid hinge and thinner body. The edge-to-edge, nearly bezel-free display makes maximum use of space, and the starting price is extremely reasonable.

Standard USB ports get swapped for USB-C ones, the Intel Y-series processor isn't as fast as those found in more traditional laptops and the power button can be tricky to hit.

Despite a few trade-offs in ports and processing power, this slimmer hybrid version of the XPS 13 is an excellent full-time laptop and part-time tablet.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9365)

With the XPS 13 2-in-1, Dell marries the strength of its ultraportables with the flexibility of a convertible laptop. You'll probably need dongles, but strong performance and ultimate portability make it a worthy contender.

Highly portable. Sleek yet sturdy build. Long battery life. USB-C and Thunderbolt ports. Comfortable keyboard. Thin bezels maximize screen real estate. Fanless processor keeps things quiet and cool.

Limited connectivity options. May require additional dongles and accessories. Awkward webcam angle when used in Laptop mode.

So why would you opt for the XPS 13 2-in-1? There are plenty of reasons, ranging from its sleek look and excellent build quality to its quiet and cool performance and that little bit of extra screen space. While the lack of USB Type-A ports is irksome...

Dell XPS 13 Notebook Series review

When Dell updated the XPS 13 in 2015, it stood out for its barely there screen bezel -- the frame around the display. Its 13-inch screen nearly filled the entire laptop lid, giving you more room to work, but in a smaller body just about the size of an...

The Dell XPS 13 keeps everything that was great about the previous model -- including its near edge-to-edge-display and fantastic keyboard -- and adds the latest Intel Kaby Lake processors and Thunderbolt 3.

The design means the webcam is awkwardly placed at the bottom of the display. Though the QHD-resolution touchscreen is beautiful, it adds a lot to the price and hurts battery life. Gold version will cost you $50 more.

Whether you scale back for better battery life or load it up for the best performance possible, the Dell XPS 13 remains one excellent ultraportable laptop.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 review

Take the best Windows ultraportable and make it a convertible - what's not to like?

Great trackpad and keyboard combo ; Thin and light ; Classic Dell build quality

No USBs ; Expensive ; Not a performance powerhouse

A top-quality ultra-portable hybrid, but it’s not for penny-pinchers or performance fiends
