GoPro Hero5 Black review

An awesomely powerful piece of kit, but not without its flaws

Voice-activated camera controls ; Improved video and image quality ; Easy-to-use range of editing apps ; Waterproof to 10m/33ft without a case ; Refined design

Doesn't feel as sturdy as previous gen ; Touchscreen fiddly to use in the wet ; Editing on desktop still clunky

Buttery-smooth 4K video comes as standard with the Hero5 Black, while a touchscreen interface and voice activation makes it the most user-friendly GoPro to date. However, it doesn't feel as robust without its plastic casing, and that touchscreen can be...

GoPro Hero5 Black review: A new breed of super Hero

A new GoPro flagship action camera has finally arrived, two years after its predecessor. The Hero5 Black - which was announced alongside the Hero5 Session and the long-awaited Karma drone - and brings a host of new features with it. The GoPro Hero5...

Fantastic image and video quality, waterproofing up to 10m without additional housing, great voice control functionality, video image stabilisation, stereo sound, built-in touchscreen

Connection to app still fiddly, mounting system not simple until you know how, battery life could always be better

The GoPro Hero5 Black is the GoPro we have all been waiting for. The company's previous offerings deliver great results, but the new device adds more than enough to warrant an upgrade - and not just because of the great image and video quality.

GoPro Hero5 Black review and sample videos. And we're also taking a look at the GoPro Karma Drone!

The ultimate action cam and an easy to fly drone with independently moving GoPro camera mount

Voice activated camera control ; Improved video and stills ; Brilliant optional drone

Fiddly rear touchscreen ; Caseless waterproofing suspect ; Package can get expensive

GoPro Hero 5 Black

Going on holiday is always the perfect time to test out an action camera such as the GoPro Hero 5 Black. So when I booked in two weeks in Vietnam, I figured it would be opportune to break out what I initially described as GoPro's "best camera to date"...

GoPro Hero5 Session review

GoPro's Session camera got off to a rocky start.

The GoPro Hero5 Session is a big improvement in video and photo quality from the original Hero Session. Additions like voice control, electronic video stabilization and USB-C help justify the $100 price difference.

You'll have to connect to a phone or tablet to see what you're shooting. The built-in battery means that once the battery is drained, you'll have to stop to charge or connect to a power source to keep recording.

The GoPro Hero5 Session brings top-notch features to an already great design.

GoPro Hero5 Black review

With the Hero5 Black, GoPro is selling more than a camera. It's a solution for shooting, editing and sharing video nearly anywhere. Whether that's done at the beach, on a mountain or in your backyard is up to you.

The GoPro Hero5 Black is a true flagship camera with all the shooting options from its predecessor plus raw and wide dynamic range photo capture and linear field of view video, a touchscreen, a waterproof body, GPS, electronic image stabilization,...

Battery life, especially with GPS, Wi-Fi and EIS on, is predictably short and the camera is not compatible with older batteries. Auto upload feature only works with GoPro's $5/month Plus service. Linear field of view and electronic image stabilization...

Combining everything great about the Hero4 cameras and then some, the GoPro Hero5 Black is a no-compromise capture device for the ordinary and extraordinary.

GoPro Hero 5 Black review: Now free if you bought a Karma

GoPro's Hero 5 Black takes all that's great about its predecessors and crams it into the best package yet and its now free for Karma owners

Waterproof up to 10m ; Image stablisation ; Vastly improved audio

Finicky touchscreen

That said, when you can now pick up a new Hero 4 for around £300 these days, the biggest question is whether you think the added waterproofing, electronic image stabilisation, RAW capture and touchscreen features are really worth the added £50. If...

GoPro Hero5 Black

The tiny Hero5 Black packs a touch screen, a waterproof design, and support for 4K and high-speed recording, making it GoPro's best action camera yet.

Waterproof without a case. Built-in touch screen. Tons of shooting modes. Excellent video quality.

Battery can drain quickly, especially with the touch screen running. No external mic support without an adapter.

Conclusions The GoPro Hero5 Black is an across-the-board improvement over the Hero4 Black. Its built-in touch screen and waterproofing make it easier to use than ever, its video and audio quality are both excellent, and at $400, it costs a full hundred...
