HTC U11 review

A unique phone with great audio performance

Great camera ; Excellent audio performance ; Impressive two-tone coloring

Edge Sense is half-baked ; Screen slightly dim ; Camera shutter speed slow

The HTC U11 is a wildly impressive phone - in a sea of wildly impressive phones. The core abilities will wow any HTC fan, but the squeezable sides really fail to impress.

HTC U11 review: Solar red version now available in UK

HTC's U11 is a welcome return to form for HTC, but is it enough to overhaul the Google Pixel XL or the Samsung Galaxy S8?

Superb camera ; Gorgeous design ; Expandable storage

Almost as expensive as Galaxy S8 ; Screen is only okay ; Edge sense isn't all that useful

However, these are small things I’d be perfectly prepared to live with. The HTC U11 is right up there with the very best smartphones around; it’s a phone that should put HTC right back on the map.

HTC U11 review

Not the most innovative phone of 2017, but likely to be one of the best

Solid build ; Stunning screen ; Fast performance ; Great camera

No headphone jack ; Music could be more engaging ; Battery life ok at best

Not the most exciting or innovative new smartphone, but decent sound and video performance mean it's one of the best of 2017

HTC U11

The HTC U11 for Sprint is the best music phone around, and its unusual squeeze sensor is a fun new way to interact with a mobile device.

Excellent audio quality. Useful squeeze sensor. Gigabit LTE. Fast processor. Alexa compatible.

Camera doesn't measure up to its marketing. No headphone jack. Back panel attracts fingerprints.

HTC has spun out a confusing and unconvincing set of phones so far this year. Seeing the U11, clearly HTC's flagship, I wonder why the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play came out at all—although they didn't fully come out in the US, with neither phone getting...

HTC U11

2017 has already been a fantastic year for phones, with the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 and Moto G5 all impressing. But now it's HTC's turn, and it's fair to say the Taiwanese company's taking things seriously.

HTC U11 review: HTC's best phone in four years competes with Android flagships for less

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are beautiful expensive phones while the LG G6 is a fairly standard beast available at a reasonable price. The new HTC U11 is both a beauty and a beast, priced lower than flagships from Samsung, Apple, and Google.

Exceptionally gorgeous liquid glass back panel ; Flawless performance and responsiveness ; BoomSound stereo speaker experience ; Included earbuds with active noise cancellation and incredible audio performance ; Reactive Google Assistant with display...

No standard headphone jack ; Capacitive buttons

HTC U11 Review: In Depth

Our HTC U11 review examines every aspect of HTC's feature-packed 2017 flagship phone, from the fresh UltraPixel 3 camera to the all-new glass design.

Incredible performance ; Strong features ; World-class camera ; Impressive audio

No HDR

The HTC U11 is exactly the kind of flagship phone that the company needed to launch in 2017. It’s once again a highly enjoyable all-round experience, but feels fresh enough to stand out against earlier handsets and rival premium mobiles.

HTC U11 Review

There's no one “right” way to make a smartphone, and that's probably more apparent with this year's selection of new handsets than any batch in recent memory. We've got exceptionally widescreen phones, phones with hardware keyboards, and even those...

Effortless, high-quality camera ; Fantastic performance ; Battery life worth writing home about ; Some really attractive color options (though the best are non-US) ; New BoomSound speakers sound nice and satisfying

Dated look ; Noise-canceling earbuds aren't quite as impressive as they could be ; Edge Sense feels over-engineered (for what could be just a button) ; Fancy audio-recording features difficult to appreciate

The HTC U11 is somewhat of a phone unstuck in time. It's got all the processing might of any 2017 flagship, offers a modern, quite useful digital assistant, and dips its toes in high-tech features like active noise cancellations. But it's also a phone...
