Microsoft Surface Pro review

The most massively improved Surface yet

Hugely improved battery life ; Much better Surface Pen ; Comfier, punchier Type Cover

Surface Pen pulled from package ; Only Core i7 can challenge A10X

We’re surprised Microsoft has refrained from calling this the Surface Pro 5, as it’s the biggest improvement on a Surface we’ve ever seen. Despite losing the included Surface Pen, the Surface Pro’s huge improvements help it retain our Recommended award.

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017) (Core m3, 128GB, 4GB) Convertible Review

Affordable Surface! Although it is already the second half of 2017, Microsoft presents the latest Surface based on a frugal Core m3 processor with connectivity that is still in need of reworking. Find out in this review whether the long battery life...

elegant and high-quality materials ; very good build ; absolutely noiseless ; low weight ; long battery life ; very good screen (viewing-angle stable, high color-space coverage) ; attractive pricing ; solid system performance for everyday tasks ; good...

very conservative thermal limits (62 °C) ; highly reflective screen ; no USB Type-C ; no upgrade options ; very expensive accessories ; no other hardware combinations possible

Microsoft's Surface Pro 2017 that is based on Intel's Core m3 Y7Y30 here does many things right and the installed hardware is very well-balanced. The efficient components could improve the already long battery life considerably. However, this is at the...

Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 review: still the best Windows laptop/tablet hybrid, but who is it for?

Surface Pro 5 is the best laptop replacement tablet a creative could wish for, but most users would be better off with a Surface Laptop

Superb screen ; Good battery life ; Undeniably versatile

Expensive at higher specs ; Keyboard costs extra and is poor ; Stylus costs extra again, although it is, admittedly, excellent

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017) review

Microsoft's Surface Pro is the best 2-in-1 you can buy.

Excellent notebook performance in a tablet format ; Significantly improved battery life ; Outstanding build quality ; Type Cover offers a quieter experience ; Surface Pen is more precise and faster

Connectivity is minimal and lacks USB Type-C ; Signature Type Cover and Surface Pen are costly add-ons

The Surface Pro (2017) is technically an incremental update over its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4. That’s not a bad thing, as the Surface Pro 4 was already our favorite detachable tablet. Microsoft simply took what was great about the previous model...

Microsoft Surface Pro

With faster performance, better battery life, and other welcome improvements over its predecessor, the Microsoft Surface Pro is still the standard bearer for 2-in-1 Windows tablets.

Powerful Core i7 processor with Iris Plus graphics. Improved battery life, kickstand, keyboard cover, and Pen. Higher-than-full-HD screen resolution.

Pricey. Type Cover and Pen sold separately. Lacks USB-C and Thunderbolt 3.

The new iteration of the Microsoft Surface Pro is a performance-oriented laptop replacement that impresses with close to 14 hours of battery life, a brilliant higher-than-full-HD screen, top-notch benchmark results, and excellent build quality. You'll...

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017) review

It's like trying to pick a suspect out of a police lineup of identical twins. Take 2015's Surface Pro 4 and the long-awaited new version just called Surface Pro, and stick them side by side on a table. Now, go and grab the new one. Like me, you might...

The Surface Pro gets better performance and battery life from its CPU update, and most models are now fanless. The excellent kickstand is even more flexible.

Minimal redesign leaves out USB-C and Thunderbolt options. The Surface Pen stylus is no longer included by default, and new keyboard covers are more expensive than ever. Still not great for lap use.

Microsoft's flagship Surface Pro gets an extremely conservative update, but better battery life keeps it the gold standard of Windows hybrid PCs -- for now.

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017) review

Meet the new Surface Pro, same as the old Surface Pro. But a little bit better

Masses of power ; A joy to type on ; Wonderful screen ; Great battery life

Too pricey for the top-spec models ; Lack of ports may frustrate some

The refreshed Surface is an evolution rather than an entirely new lifeform, but it remains the class leader
