Microsoft Surface Laptop

Microsoft's recent hardware efforts prove two things. First, Windows devices can be built without compromise. Second, that Apple isn't the only company that can meld hardware and software together in harmony.

Microsoft Surface Laptop review

Great keyboard ; High contrast, color accurate display ; Alcantara fabric feels wonderful ; Solid processor performance

Windows 10 S restricts app selection ; Needs more ports ; Disappointing hard drive

We believed, given its past successes, that a Surface Laptop would be an easy win for Microsoft. Compared to the Pro, Book, or Studio, it’s a simple machine. Yet the company found a way to complicate matters with Windows 10 S, and fails to deliver in...

Microsoft Surface Laptop

Microsoft's Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S is aimed at students looking for a sleek alternative to the aging Apple MacBook Air. It's stylish and powerful, but you'll want to nab the free Windows 10 Pro upgrade while you can.

Light and thin body. Comfortable keyboard and palm rest. Long battery life.

Limited port selection. Installed OS is locked to Windows Store apps. Windows 10 Pro is a paid upgrade after promotional period. Surface Pen not included.

Meanwhile, the Core i7-powered version of the New Razer Blade Stealth remains our Editors' Choice for midrange ultraportables for its faster performance and wealth of features, all for $300 less than our upgraded Surface Laptop.

Microsoft Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro review

I feel like I always start a Surface review the same way, so here goes: I've always wanted Microsoft to build a laptop. A couple of years ago, Microsoft nearly did that with the Surface Book but it...

Free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro ; Great balance of power and thinness ; Beautiful touchscreen

Few apps on Windows 10 S ; Alcantara fabric requires care and maintenance ; No SD card slot or USB-C

Microsoft Surface Laptop review

The original Surface products from Microsoft -- the first-gen Surface Pro and Surface RT -- had everyone asking at the time: "Why is Microsoft making a tablet?" The latest Surface has everyone asking a different question: "Why is Microsoft making a...

The Surface Laptop has a slim, modern design and comes in a selection of cool colors. Battery life is very good, and the keyboard and touchpad are both excellent.

The included Windows 10 S operating system can only install preapproved apps by default (but it's upgradable). The long-term life of the fabric covering remains a question. The cooler colors are only available in more expensive configurations, and the...

While it doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowded field, the Surface Laptop has a great design and is a solid, travel-friendly clamshell PC.

Microsoft Surface Laptop review: wonderfully engineered high-end laptop with just a few baffling quirks

Slick, speedy and sexy, but why is the palm rest made of man-made fibres and what is Windows 10 S all about?

Generally stunning design ; Slick, fast operation ; Excellent screen and speakers

Windows 10 S is quite limiting ; Fabric palm rest seems a design flourish too far

Microsoft Surface Hub

Microsoft's Surface Hub is a huge touch screen with built-in intelligence for meetings, whiteboard sessions, and videoconferencing. Sure, it requires a significant investment and there are some minor software issues, but it's a unique and impressive...

Big, beautiful touch screen. Intelligent, meeting-focused custom version of Windows. Works well for whiteboard sessions and video conferences. Sensitive microphone arrays. Includes self-charging digital pens.

Expensive. Requires an Exchange Server or an Office 365 for Business account along with Skype for Business. Difficult to call standard (non-Business) Skype users.

Microsoft Surface Precision Mouse

The Microsoft Surface Precision Mouse is, to put it simply, Microsoft's answer to the Logitech MX Master Mouse . Like the MX Master, the Surface Precision is a $100 productivity mouse that connects via Bluetooth, and offers a few extra buttons and...

Microsoft Surface Laptop review

A carpeted Chromebook-alike that impresses in almost every way

Fab design ; Windows 10 S works well ; Great battery life

Keyboard is a bit wobbly ; Lack of ports

Microsoft’s first ever laptop is an ultra-portable stunner

Microsoft Surface Laptop Review

The Surface Laptop ($999, $1,299 as configured) is the Microsoft notebook that I've been waiting for. Unlike the Surface Pro, this clamshell easily balances in my lap. And the Surface Laptop is lighter, more affordable and more stylish than the pricier...
