Microsoft Surface Laptop (i5-7200U) Review

All screen and no substance. The new Surface Laptop sounds and looks more special than it really is. While the unique 3:2 touchscreen is bright, crisp, and colorful for graphic artists, almost everything else fails to impress.

very accurate colors and grayscale before calibration ; bright display backlight; excellent black levels ; excellent construction quality; rigid design ; nearly full sRGB coverage ; unique Alcantara texture ; above average speakers ; Windows Hello...

no USB type-C, Thunderbolt 3, SIM, SD reader, Kensington Lock, or fingerprint reader ; bottom of base can become very warm under heavy processing load ; chassis reverberates noticeably during audio playback ; weak integrated HD Graphics 620 performance...

Microsoft advertises the Surface Laptop as "more than a traditional laptop", but our experience has been the opposite. If features like USB Type-C, SD card readers, and NVMe are important, then current flagship Ultrabooks from Lenovo, HP, and Dell pack...

Microsoft Surface Studio review: Extraordinarily expensive but an intriguing iMac alternative

A fantastic, enormous all-in-one that's much more than an iMac wannabe but the price means it's for professionals only

Glorious 3:2 True Scale display ; Neat fold-down design ; Speedy performance

Laptop-grade graphics ; Surface Dial not included ; No pure SSD option

Ultimately, then, the Surface Studio comes down to a question of value. If your business is willing to pay an exceptional price for an exceptional computer then, to my admitted surprise, I’m inclined to say that the Surface Studio outclasses the iMac....

Microsoft Surface Laptop review: Aims at the student, offs the MacBook Air - now in more colours

Ideal for students with heavy wallets, the Windows 10 S-powered Surface Laptop offers an appealing but pricey alternative to the MacBook Air

Gorgeous design ; Stellar performance ; Excellent battery life

Windows 10 S leaves a lot to be desired ; Disappointing screen

And with a 10% student discount and Office 365 Personal thrown in on top of an already competitive price, it represents superb value for money. In fact, even if you’re not a student, you should take a long, hard look at the Surface Laptop before...

Microsoft Surface Laptop

Microsoft's Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S is aimed at students looking for a sleek alternative to the aging Apple MacBook Air. It's stylish and powerful, but you'll want to nab the free Windows 10 Pro upgrade while you can.

Light and thin body. Comfortable keyboard and palm rest. Long battery life.

Limited port selection. Installed OS is locked to Windows Store apps. Windows 10 Pro is a paid upgrade after promotional period. Surface Pen not included.

Meanwhile, the Core i7-powered version of the New Razer Blade Stealth remains our Editors' Choice for midrange ultraportables for its faster performance and wealth of features, all for $300 less than our upgraded Surface Laptop.

Microsoft Surface Laptop

Microsoft's recent hardware efforts prove two things. First, Windows devices can be built without compromise. Second, that Apple isn't the only company that can meld hardware and software together in harmony.

Microsoft Surface Laptop review

Microsoft's Surface Laptop will lure you in with Alcantara fabric, then cage you into Windows 10 S.

Fab design ; Windows 10 S works well ; Great battery life

Keyboard is a bit wobbly ; Lack of ports

Microsoft’s first ever laptop is an ultra-portable stunner

Microsoft Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro review

I feel like I always start a Surface review the same way, so here goes: I've always wanted Microsoft to build a laptop. A couple of years ago, Microsoft nearly did that with the Surface Book but it...

Free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro ; Great balance of power and thinness ; Beautiful touchscreen

Few apps on Windows 10 S ; Alcantara fabric requires care and maintenance ; No SD card slot or USB-C

Microsoft Surface Laptop review

The original Surface products from Microsoft -- the first-gen Surface Pro and Surface RT -- had everyone asking at the time: "Why is Microsoft making a tablet?" The latest Surface has everyone asking a different question: "Why is Microsoft making a...

The Surface Laptop has a slim, modern design and comes in a selection of cool colors. Battery life is very good, and the keyboard and touchpad are both excellent.

The included Windows 10 S operating system can only install preapproved apps by default (but it's upgradable). The long-term life of the fabric covering remains a question. The cooler colors are only available in more expensive configurations, and the...

While it doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowded field, the Surface Laptop has a great design and is a solid, travel-friendly clamshell PC.
