Samsung Gear VR Controller review

The most popular mobile VR headset has a controller to call its own

Comfortable, one-handed remote ; New motion controls are promising

Not a two-handed full controller ; Requires two AAA batteries

The Samsung Gear VR Controller finally brings a gamepad to the popular virtual reality headset, and it's better late than never. It includes all of the buttons that are mounted to the side of the headset, so you're no longer tapping your temple to move...

Samsung Gear VR Consumer Edition review: The stepping-stone to Oculus proper

Virtual reality, often known as VR, has a long and winding history. From the distant dream of Sega's VR, unveiled back in 1993, to the modern day it's-almost-here reality of Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, it's South Korean giant Samsung...

Wire-free VR experience unlike its rivals, more affordable than earlier Gear VR models, new design benefits glasses wearers, easy to setup and use, fun experiences on offer

Tied to phone hardware, lower refresh and perceptible resolution than Oculus/competition, may cause nausea, still limited range of content/games

The first time we slipped the Gear VR on and looked around a whole virtual world, head turning to take in what was to the side and behind, part of us was impressed with the sheer spectacle. It's quite amazing.

Samsung Gear VR review: a must have for Galaxy phone owners

High quality, Oculus Rift-powered VR for £80 or $99 has got to be a deal, right?

Cheap ; Decent variety of content ; Solid VR experience all round

Samsung only ; Graphics lack a certain polish ; Bit of a battery burner

Samsung Gear VR with Controller powered by Oculus review

The Galaxy S8 and a pack-in remote give this headset fresh life

Immersive VR experiences ; Sturdy, comfortable design ; Remote adds a lot to it

Only for flagship phones ; Meatier content, please! ; Some light bleeds in

One of the Galaxy S8's best perks, and well worth the expense to get a deeper, more immersive VR experience

Hands-on: Samsung Gear VR review

Samsung has once again updated its Gear VR headset to coincide with the Galaxy S8 launch. Our hands-on review reveals what's new for the 2017 model, and how it compares to other VR headsets.

It's too early to pass judgement on the new Gear VR. If you're seriously into VR videos and/or you're buying a Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus, it's an obvious choice - though sadly here in the UK you won't get it for free with an S8 or S8 Plus like you will in...

Samsung Gear VR

The latest Samsung Gear VR headset lets you experience virtual reality on the Galaxy Note 7, along with most other recent Galaxy smartphones.

Easy setup. Comfortable. Relatively inexpensive.

Not as visually impressive or technically powerful as PC-based headsets. No charging cable included.

Conclusions The new Samsung Gear VR is a functional, accessible, and affordable way to play with VR if you have a compatible Galaxy phone, and anyone with even a passing interest in VR should seriously consider giving it a shot. Outside of the USB-C...

Samsung Gear VR (2015)

If you already have a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, the Gear VR headset is a well-built, relatively inexpensive way to see if virtual reality is right for you.

Comfortable to wear. Oculus-powered technology is well-developed. Good number of apps available.

Requires one of four specific Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Still no killer app to make virtual reality a must-have. Potential thermal issues.

Ongoing Issues and Conclusions Unfortunately, the Gear VR and the connected Galaxy S6 I was using didn't seem as interested in a prolonged gaming experience as I was. After about 40 minutes, the game stopped and the Gear VR software displayed a warning...

Samsung Gear VR review

Bringing proper virtual reality to the Samsung phone-owning masses

Gorgeous, immersive games ; Mostly comfortable fit ; Cheap... if you have the phone

Limited phone compatibility ; No positional tracking ; Rare performance/heat issues

It has limitations, but the Gear VR really delivers on the promise and power of virtual reality.

Samsung Gear VR review (2015): A no-brainer if you own a Samsung phone

Samsung's Gear VR is the company's first virtual reality headset designed for everyday consumers. For just $99 and a compatible Samsung phone, you can dive into an incredible experience that'll have you watching 360-degree movies and playing super...

Affordable ; Comfortable to wear ; Easy setup ; Wide variety of content

Only compatible with a handful of Samsung phones ; Drains your phone battery ; Not as robust as upcoming PC and console-based VR headsets

If Google Cardboard gives a taste of virtual reality, Samsung's Gear VR offers up a whole feast. With just the addition of a smartphone, you can get a truly immersive VR headset that lets you travel distant lands, watch movies and shoot up spaceships...
