Sony's A7R III mirrorless can take anything you throw at it

Sony's A7R III handles landscapes, action and video with aplomb.

Its only real rival is the superb Nikon D850, and which you choose may depend on whether you prefer mirrorless or DSLR. DP Review called them "genuinely two of the best cameras the world has ever seen."

Sony A7R III

The best mirrorless camera that money can buy. Sony A7R III.

Phenomenal image quality in almost any situation ; Extremely fast and responsive ; Compact, lightweight design with well-placed controls ; Superb electronic viewfinder ; In-body image stabilisation gives sharper images with any lens

AF area is invisible when moved using the joystick ; Rear screen only tilts up or down ; Handgrip too close to the lens for shooting with gloves

Quite simply, the Sony A7R III is a ludicrously brilliant camera, and one of the very best on the market.

Sony A7R Mark III hands-on review

With big improvements to battery life and performance, Sony's A7R Mark III is a worthy successor.

42.4MP full-frame sensor ; 10 FPS burst shooting ; Vastly improved battery life ; Improved image stabilization ; Improved AF performance

No “anti-distortion shutter” rating ; Burst mode limits compressed RAWs to 12-bit

Sony a7R III

The a7R III takes Sony's proven high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera and improves upon its speed, autofocus system, and video capabilities.

Proven 42MP full-frame sensor. Improved processor and autofocus system. 10fps image capture with tracking. Silent shooting option. Tilting touch LCD. Dual card slots. Larger battery than a7R II.

Only one card slot supports UHS-II speeds. No built-in flash. No in-camera time-lapse support. Can't start video until image buffer is cleared. Dense menu system.

The a7R III doesn't offer increased resolution when compared with its predecessor, but that doesn't mean it's not a serious upgrade. It takes a sensor that's already proven to deliver excellent performance and ekes a bit more dyanmic range out of it,...

Sony a7R Mark III review

Sony's a7R Mark III shoots 42.4MP files at 10fps and incorporates a robust video feature set, large battery, refined ergonomics and more. It certainly looks impressive, but what is it like to use, and how does it stack up against the rest of the...

At its core, the a7R III can be seen as a mashup of the best parts of its predecessor, the a7R II, and Sony's sports-shooting flagship a9. As with Nikon's D850 for DSLR users, the a7R III has the potential to be a 'Goldilocks' camera for those looking...

Sony A7R III review

Sony hits the prosumer sweet spot with its latest full-frame camera

Fast burst mode and autofocus ; Superb all-round video and still quality ; Lengthy battery life

Large body by CSC standards ; Screen tilts but doesn’t flip

A true imaging powerhouse, with the price tag to match

Sony A7R III initial review: Giving the Nikon D850 a run for its money

The Sony A7R III is the epitome of competence, whatever your genre of photography. Only the more demanding sports and wildlife photographers will need

Sharp images with plenty of detail and exceptional dynamic range ; Much improved new battery with 650-single-shot-life ; Lovely electronic viewfinder ; Very respectable high-speed performance ; Customisable 'My Menu' for direct access to most used...

Still takes a while to work your way around the camera ; LCD touchscreen lacks some functionality ; Some buttons/dials are not the easiest to control ; Still uncomfortable to hold with larger lenses

In terms of all-round competence, the Sony A7R III goes head-to-head with the Nikon D850 as the best full-frame camera money can buy. It's battle of mirrorless versus DSLR.

Sony Alpha A7R III review

Sony's megapixel monster gets a performance boost

10fps at 42.2MP ; Advanced 5-axis IS system ; Large and bright EVF ; Fast AF performance ; Improved handling

Battery life could still be better ; Limited touchscreen control ; Only one SD slot supports UHS-II cards

The Sony Alpha A7R III is not only the most well-rounded mirrorless camera you can buy today, but one of the best cameras out there right now.
