Alex Android tablet / e-book reader

The Alex is much more than an e-book reader; it's also a pad-style computer courtesy of the Android OS

Good battery life, innovative design

Quite expensive, lack of support for Android Marketplace

The Alex doesn't have the polish or broad functionality of the iPad, and the user interface is also much less intuitive. On the other hand the Alex is smaller, lighter and has way better battery life. If the Alex were to come down somewhat in price,...

Spring Design Alex eReader

The Spring Alex is the best e-reader on the market for Android geeks, but mainstream e-book buffs should stick with the Amazon Kindle or the Apple iPad.

Flexible, dual-screen design. Integrated touch-screen Android device provides Web browsing and video-viewing capability. Plenty of book downloading options.

Expensive. Sluggish CPU. Hissy audio output. Interface can seem obtuse for non-techies.

Review: Spring Design Alex E-Book Reader

Two screens: one for reading one for surfing, neither competent. Meet the Alexa.

Easy to use. Packed with browser, e-mail and access to photos. Crisp screen easy on the eyes. Long battery life

No integrated book store: WTF? No 3G. Inadequate graphics and processing power. Expensive

Spring Design Alex eReader Review

Then there is the iPad, a multifunction tablet that Apple hopes can wedge into the eBook reader market, complete with $500 price tag and Apple's own iBooks bookstore

The feature-rich Alex may lack polish, but it's a viable alternative for those looking for more from an eReader
